Mobile Bay Termite is a free referral service, not a pest control company. We connect homeowners with independent local termite companies.

Winged termites or mud tubes? Do this first

  1. Note when you saw them. Night swarms around lights in late May or June point to Formosan termites; daytime swarms earlier in spring point to native subterranean termites (National Termite Survey).
  2. Keep a few wings or swarmers in a sealed bag for the inspector, and turn off outdoor lights on swarm evenings.
  3. Have a termite bond? Call your current company first. Your contract may already cover an inspection and retreatment.

Before you hire a termite company in Alabama

  • Check the permit. Look up the company or technician on the Alabama Department of Agriculture and Industries Pesticide Applicator Search. Termite work is in the wood-destroying-organism category (Alabama Extension).
  • Get the contract before any work. Alabama requires a written contract covering at least a year, with a foundation diagram, reinspection schedule, renewal fee and how long it's fixed, and the total price (Ala. Admin. Code r. 80-10-9-.16).
  • Read the bold box on page one. It must say whether the contract covers retreatment only or retreatment and damage repair.
  • Compare at least three quotes for the same method (liquid barrier or bait) and the same kind of bond.
  • Don't assume insurance will pay. Standard homeowners policies generally exclude termite damage (Triple-I).
